Soils restoration reference framework
A decision support tool for rewilding projects
The Land Transition Institute has embarked on a project to develop a soils restauration reference framework, a decision-making tool for rewilding project leaders. It is intended to guide project owners and project managers in the implementation of a rewilding operation, from an initial degraded state to a projected final state. This tool combines two approaches developed by existing tools: some guides consider rewilsing at the level of territorial planning, while others offer technical expertise on methods for restoring soil functionality. The Institute's tool, meanwhile, focuses on the project level, the rewilding operation, while maintaining a transverse, multi-stakeholder vision. It offers a multifunctional interpretation of degraded soils: it will enable project leaders to determine which soil functions to prioritise according to the intended use, and to choose between different soil restoration methods according to their constraints.
